Independent Report
QUETTA — Governor Balochistan Jaffar Khan Mandokhail emphasized the need for full inclusion, accessibility and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities as the world observed the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3.
The governor said meaningful implementation of the government’s job quota and a positive shift in public attitudes could resolve more than half of the challenges faced by persons with disabilities. He also paid tribute to persons with disabilities and their families, noting that physical or intellectual impairments often create deep social and domestic pressures.
Mandokhail highlighted that advancements in science and technology had significantly empowered persons with disabilities, enabling them to lead productive lives and contribute to society. Citing the example of renowned physicist Stephen Hawking, he said determination and resilience could help individuals overcome even the most severe limitations.
The governor underlined the need for a more inclusive environment, calling for equal access to education, employment and social participation. He stressed that the financial stability and mobility concerns of persons with disabilities must be addressed through improved accessibility in government buildings.
He instructed that all departments providing services to persons with disabilities be relocated to ground floors to ensure easy access. Mandokhail added that since assuming office, he had kept the Governor House open to address the concerns of persons with disabilities as well as underprivileged communities across the province.
