Pishin, January 5, 2026:
Authorities in Pishin District have taken immediate notice of a sudden and unauthorized surge in flour prices, which has seen the cost of a 50-kilogram bag jump from PKR 5,000 to PKR 6,500. The abrupt increase has triggered concerns among local residents, who fear the escalation will exacerbate the financial burden amid rising living costs.
District officials have warned that any supplier or retailer implementing unlawful price hikes will face strict action under existing regulations. Market inspections are being intensified to ensure compliance with official pricing structures and prevent profiteering.
Residents have expressed strong disapproval of the surge and urged authorities to maintain prices at reasonable levels to protect consumers, particularly low- and middle-income families. The administration has urged citizens to report any unauthorized price adjustments promptly so that immediate corrective measures can be enforced.
Officials emphasized that maintaining price stability is crucial not only for consumer protection but also for ensuring social order. “No entity has the right to exploit essential commodities for undue profit,” a senior official stated, highlighting the government’s commitment to safeguard the public against exploitative practices in essential goods markets.
This swift administrative response reflects ongoing efforts to regulate commodity pricing and prevent inflationary shocks in vital food supplies.
