Balochistan Moves to Regulate Commercial Hours, Imposes Strict Timelines Amid Energy Conservation Drive
Independent Report
QUETTA, April 5, 2026: The Government of Balochistan has begun enforcing a series of measures aimed at conserving energy and easing the burden of inflation on the public, following decisions taken in a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti.
In this regard, an official notification issued by the provincial Home Department has introduced revised operating hours for markets, wedding halls, and restaurants across the province as part of a coordinated strategy to reduce overall energy consumption.
Under the new guidelines, all markets and shopping centres are required to close by 8:00 PM. However, essential service providers such as pharmacies, tandoors, and bakeries have been exempted to ensure that the public continues to have access to basic necessities without interruption.
The notification further stipulates that all functions at marriage halls, banquet facilities, and hotels must conclude by 10:00 PM. Restaurants have also been directed to adhere to the same closing time.
Hamza Shafqaat stated that district administrations along with law enforcement agencies have been instructed to ensure strict implementation of the revised timings. He cautioned that any violations will be addressed firmly under relevant legal provisions without exception.
The Home Department has directed all divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners, and police authorities to promptly implement the orders and ensure that traders, business operators, and the general public are properly informed about the new regulations.
Officials explained that these steps form part of a broader policy aimed at tackling ongoing energy challenges while offering relief to citizens affected by inflation. They noted that limiting commercial activity during late hours is expected to significantly reduce energy consumption.
The provincial government has also urged the public and business community to cooperate fully with the new directives, emphasizing that collective participation is crucial to overcoming energy constraints and maintaining economic stability.
The initiative reflects the government’s continued focus on efficient resource utilization, public facilitation, and stronger regulatory enforcement across key sectors in Balochistan.
