KHUZDAR:
Commissioner Kalat Division Dr Tufail Baloch on Friday said that access to knowledge is a defining feature of developed societies, expressing confidence that the newly established Shaheed Usman Ashiq Library in Khuzdar would play a transformative role in promoting education, research and academic excellence among the region’s youth.
The commissioner inaugurated the state-of-the-art library at the District Police Complex (DPC) premises along the National Highway in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Abdul Razzaq Sasoli, SSP Dostain Dashti and other district officials.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Dr Tufail Baloch described the facility as far more than a public library, calling it the beginning of a new era for education in Khuzdar. He said the institution would provide students with access to modern learning resources and create an environment conducive to research, innovation and intellectual growth.
The library has been established by transforming a building that had remained unused since 1994 into a modern educational facility. Developed with the support of Bolan Mining Enterprises (BME) under the Balochistan Sustainable Development Initiative (BSDI), the project has also been equipped with a solar energy system to ensure uninterrupted study during power outages.
The facility includes separate reading halls for male and female students, a digital learning section, dedicated research rooms, a conference hall, modern computer systems, high-speed internet connectivity and access to online academic resources. It also offers study materials for competitive examinations, including CSS, PMS, NTS and other professional recruitment tests.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Abdul Razzaq Sasoli said providing quality educational facilities for young people remained a key priority of the district administration, adding that the library would significantly enhance learning opportunities and contribute to raising educational standards across the district.
Academics, members of civil society and other participants welcomed the initiative, describing the Shaheed Usman Ashiq Library as a landmark educational project that would encourage a culture of reading, research and academic excellence while expanding access to modern learning facilities for students in Khuzdar.
