Director General Social Welfare Balochistan Saifullah Khan Khetran has said the provincial government is implementing comprehensive measures to empower vulnerable and underprivileged segments of society, strengthen social protection and create equal opportunities for disadvantaged communities, adding that the Social Welfare Department is being modernized in line with the principles of transparency, merit and good governance.
He expressed these views while speaking to delegations representing various social welfare organizations.
The DG said improving services for persons with disabilities, women, orphaned children, senior citizens and other deserving groups remained among the provincial government’s foremost priorities. He noted that welfare programmes were being implemented through transparent mechanisms to ensure that government assistance reached genuine beneficiaries efficiently and without delay.
Highlighting the department’s initiatives, Saifullah Khetran said thousands of assistive devices, including wheelchairs, electric wheelchairs, tricycles and other mobility aids, had been distributed to persons with disabilities over the past several years, adding that the programme would continue to benefit more deserving individuals across the province.
He further said the department had also distributed hundreds of livelihood support packages, including sewing machines, washing machines, handicraft equipment, plumbing and electrician toolkits, as well as mobile phone repair kits, to skilled individuals to encourage self-employment and improve household incomes.
Referring to rehabilitation initiatives, the DG said the department had strengthened programmes for individuals recovering from drug addiction by providing treatment, psychological counselling, rehabilitation services and social reintegration support. He added that many beneficiaries had successfully resumed productive lives and that efforts were underway to further expand the program’s outreach and capacity.
Reaffirming the department’s commitment to inclusive development, Khetran said the Social Welfare Department would continue broadening its welfare initiatives to enhance access to social protection, vocational skills, employment opportunities and essential services for vulnerable families and disadvantaged communities throughout Balochistan.
