ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued political, diplomatic and moral support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, stating that Accession to Pakistan Day symbolizes the Kashmiri people’s longstanding association with Pakistan and their resolve to achieve the right to self-determination.
In his message issued on the occasion, the Speaker said the observance commemorates the July 19, 1947 resolution adopted by the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference in Srinagar expressing the desire for accession to Pakistan. He said the day reflects the historical, religious, cultural and civilizational ties between Pakistan and the Kashmiri people.
Ayaz Sadiq said the Jammu and Kashmir dispute remains linked to lasting peace and stability in South Asia and emphasized that its resolution should be in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. He also called on the international community to take notice of the human rights situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and support the right to self-determination.
The Speaker said Parliament has consistently expressed solidarity with the Kashmiri people through unanimous resolutions and will continue raising the issue at national, regional and international forums. He added that the Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir is actively highlighting the issue internationally.
Deputy Speaker National Assembly Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, in his separate message, described Accession to Pakistan Day as a symbol of the enduring historical relationship between Pakistan and the Kashmiri people. He paid tribute to the sacrifices made by Kashmiris and reiterated Parliament’s commitment to extending political, diplomatic and moral support for their recognized aspirations.
