Pakistan, China Discuss Expanding Climate Cooperation, Scientific Research and Mountain Ecosystem Protection at Xizang Forum

XIZANG, China, July 18: Pakistan and China discussed expanding bilateral cooperation in climate action, environmental protection, scientific research and sustainable development during a meeting between Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr. Musadik Malik and Vice Chairman of the People’s Government of the Xizang Autonomous Region, Xu Zitao, held on the sidelines of the 5th China Xizang Trans-Himalaya Forum.

The Vice Chairman briefed the Pakistani delegation on Xizang’s history, geography, socio-economic development, cultural heritage and ecological conservation strategy, highlighting that environmental protection remains a central pillar of the region’s development model. He noted that Xizang is home to 47 national parks and continues to pursue development while preserving its ecological and environmental characteristics.

Dr. Musadik Malik reaffirmed the longstanding strategic cooperative partnership between Pakistan and China, emphasizing that both countries enjoy strong collaboration across multiple sectors. The two sides explored opportunities to deepen cooperation in climate change, biodiversity conservation, mountain ecosystem protection, innovation, scientific research and sustainable development.

 

The discussions also covered traditional knowledge systems, including Tibetan medicine, with both sides recognizing opportunities for academic and research collaboration, particularly in light of similarities with traditional medicinal practices in Pakistan’s Gilgit-Baltistan region.

 

The Federal Minister reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening climate cooperation with China, expressing confidence that enhanced collaboration in environmental initiatives and scientific research would further reinforce the enduring partnership between the two countries.
