Food Authority Seizes 1,136 KG Loose Oil, Discards 300 Liters Substandard Milk, 13 FIRs Filed for Overpricing

 

On the directives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Food Zahir Shah Toru, the Food Department and Food Safety and Halal Food Authority have intensified their operations against profiteering and substandard food ahead of Ramadan.

 

According to the spokesperson, the Food Safety Team raided a nimko production unit in Mardan, where 1,136 kg of substandard loose oil and non-food-grade color were recovered. The factory was subsequently sealed, and legal action under the Food Safety Act has been initiated.

 

Similarly, food safety teams conducted roadblock inspections in Dera Ismail Khan, Swat, and Bannu, checking vehicles carrying food supplies. During one such inspection in Swat, 300 liters of substandard milk were seized and disposed of, with heavy fines imposed on the violators.

 

Meanwhile, food department officials also inspected general stores, kabab hotels, milk shops, and butcher outlets in Peshawar to verify price lists and quality standards. During these operations, 13 Cases were registered against shopkeepers for profiteering, and strict action has been initiated.

 

Lauding the crackdown against profiteering and adulteration, Minister Zahir Shah Toru reaffirmed the government’s commitment to curbing hoarding, price hiking, and the sale of substandard food items. He directed officials to keep a strict watch on market practices to ensure compliance with food safety regulations.
