Independent Report
QUETTA, Oct. 25, 2025 — Chief Secretary Balochistan Shakeel Qadir Khan has said that climate change is an escalating global challenge, intensifying the frequency and severity of natural disasters that impact human lives and economies. He emphasized that the provincial government has initiated a number of key measures to prevent and mitigate the effects of these disasters, aiming to ensure the protection and stability of people’s lives and property.
Addressing a ceremony organized by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in connection with the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, the Chief Secretary said that a comprehensive and integrated strategy has been developed at the provincial level to effectively manage natural calamities. This approach not only helps address current challenges but also establishes a strong foundation for public welfare and sustainable development.
He stated that the government is committed to providing every citizen with a safe environment and disaster protection facilities to minimize losses. These proactive initiatives, he added, will build public confidence, promote development, and move Balochistan toward becoming a safer and more resilient province.
Highlighting the global theme of this year’s observance — “Investing in Disaster Prevention Before It Happens” — the Chief Secretary stressed the importance of preparedness before disasters strike rather than reactive measures afterward. He further urged PDMA to focus on long-term planning and policies and to expand the 1122 emergency service across all districts, eventually extending it to tehsil levels for faster emergency response.
