Islamabad, Nov 5: The Islamabad Food Authority (IFA) successfully foiled a heinous attempt to sell substandard and unhygienic ready-to-cook frozen meat in the federal capital. The crackdown, led by Deputy Director IFA Dr. Tahira Siddique, resulted in the seizure and safe disposal of 120 kilograms of hazardous meat, along with heavy fines imposed on the distribution cell and supplier.
According to Dr. Tahira Siddique, the IFA team conducted a thorough backward traceability investigation from a motorcycle supplier, which revealed that the contaminated meat was intended for supply to various markets across Islamabad. The team discovered that spoiled meat was being deceptively repackaged in attractive labels to mislead consumers.
During the inspection, filthy freezers, unhygienic conditions, and a foul-smelling environment were found at the illegal repackaging unit. Dr. Siddique noted that the perpetrators were secretly operating from a private house, violating multiple food safety laws.
“The operation was launched due to serious violations of food safety regulations and absence of required documentation and records,” said the Deputy Director.
She lauded the dedicated efforts of the Islamabad Food Authority inspection team, emphasizing that their vigilance has prevented a serious public health threat. “Our teams are working day and night to safeguard public health. No one involved in food adulteration or health risks will be spared, regardless of their influence,” Dr. Siddique added.
Dr. Siddique further reiterated that strict compliance with food regulations is mandatory for all food business operators in the federal capital, and IFA will continue its zero-tolerance operations against those endangering public health.
