Punjab Police Intensifies Action Against Smog and Air Pollution: 26 Arrested, Millions in Fines Imposed

Punjab Police have intensified operations to curb smog and air pollution across the province. In the last 24 hours, 26 cases were registered in Lahore and other districts, and lawbreakers were arrested, according to a spokesperson for Punjab Police.

During the crackdown, 464 individuals were fined over PKR 1.055 million, while 87 others were issued warnings. Violations included burning crop residues, vehicles emitting excessive smoke, industrial activities, and brick kiln operations.

So far this year, a total of 2,388 cases have been registered, 2,106 offenders arrested, and 88,981 individuals fined over PKR 230.8 million for violating environmental regulations.

Punjab IG Dr. Usman Anwar directed officers to further accelerate anti-smog operations on highways, industrial zones, agricultural lands, and other critical areas. He emphasized that a zero-tolerance policy will be strictly enforced against anyone violating smog SOPs.
