Global Water Expert Briefs Quetta Commissioner on Groundwater Crisis and Sustainable Management

Quetta, November 20 — Commissioner Quetta Division Shahzeb Khan Kakar met renowned andrologist and international water resource adviser Dr. Andreas de Jong to discuss groundwater depletion, sustainable usage, and long-term water security.

Dr. de Jong shared technical insights on Quetta’s rapidly declining aquifers and highlighted global scientific models that could help stabilise the city’s water supply. He recommended smart water-management systems, improved recharge infrastructure, and strict discipline in water usage.

The Commissioner briefed him on ongoing initiatives, including the Urban Water Security Policy, and stressed that scientific policymaking and international expertise are crucial to overcoming the crisis.

Both sides agreed to explore joint projects, technical cooperation, capacity-building workshops, and the development of a comprehensive water-reform plan for the region.
