Illegal Fishing Practices Devastate Marine Life and Local Economy
Vinder, Balochistan – The unregulated use of light boat systems in Dam’s coastal waters has dealt a severe blow to the livelihoods of small-scale fishermen, plunging them into economic uncertainty. The practice of using powerful lights to attract and catch fish has not only ravaged the marine ecosystem but also imperiled the very existence of local fishermen.
Speaking to the media, a local fisherman expressed deep concern, stating, “The Department of Fisheries’ inaction and apathy is deplorable. If immediate measures are not taken to curb this menace, the sea will be depleted of fish, leaving thousands of fishermen destitute.”
The fishermen attribute the crisis to the proliferation of light boats, which indiscriminately target fish, disrupting the delicate balance of the marine ecosystem. The situation demands urgent attention from authorities, as the livelihoods of countless families hang in the balance.
The fishermen have appealed to the Chief Minister of Balochistan, the Chief Secretary, and the Director General of Fisheries to intervene and impose a ban on light boats. They warn that failure to do so will lead to widespread protests, further exacerbating the situation.
The plight of Dam’s fishermen serves as a stark reminder of the need for sustainable fishing practices and effective governance to safeguard the interests of local communities and preserve the region’s rich marine biodiversity.
