President Asif Ali Zardari has expressed his condolences over the 57th anniversary of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), paying tribute to Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto.
He highlighted that PPP’s struggle strengthened democracy in Pakistan and its historic role in resisting dictatorship and restoring public rights. He described the 1973 consensus constitution as a historic gift of Bhutto and emphasized the party’s key role in maintaining federal stability and national unity.
President Zardari also underlined PPP’s reforms in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, the foundation of the country’s nuclear program, and historical reforms in land, labor, education, and social justice as defining achievements of the party. He recalled PPP’s role from MRD to ARD in democratic evolution and referred to the Charter of Democracy and the 18th Amendment as the party’s democratic legacy.
He urged party workers to maintain democratic unity and focus on including marginalized groups, women, minorities, laborers, and farmers in the party’s mission. He stressed the need to renew the commitment to democracy, equality, and social justice, noting that empowering women and minorities is key to Pakistan’s bright future.
President Zardari reaffirmed that PPP remains committed to a tolerant and progressive Pakistan.
