QUETTA, Dec 07: Quetta has added a new fleet of modern Chinese buses, including four pink units reserved exclusively for women, marking a major upgrade to the city’s public transport system, according to Gwadar Pro.
Seventeen low-emission buses arrived in the provincial capital this week, expanding the existing fleet of eight eco-friendly vehicles. The boosted capacity will introduce new intra-city routes from University Road to Sariab Mill, with a planned extension toward Kuchlak.
The newly launched Pink Bus Service will operate separately for female commuters, aiming to provide safer and more dignified mobility in a city where women often face harassment and limited transport options.
The initiative was endorsed during the 20th cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, which also approved wide-ranging reforms covering climate resilience, banking procedures, administration and public service delivery.
The first batch of eight buses arrived in July 2023 and initially served a single corridor from Sariab Road to Airport Chowk via 18 stops. Overcrowding prompted the government to seek additional units.
Under the expansion plan, Gwadar and Turbat will receive four buses each in the next phase, while Pishin, Khuzdar and Sui will be allotted two buses apiece, extending formal public transport services deeper into Balochistan.
