Islamabad, December 21, 2025 — President Asif Ali Zardari has termed the induction of the Pakistan Navy’s modern warship PNS Khyber in Türkiye as a major milestone for national maritime defence. He said the addition of advanced naval platforms would significantly enhance the protection of Pakistan’s sea borders and maritime security.
The commissioning ceremony was held at the Istanbul Naval Shipyard, with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attending as chief guest. President Zardari congratulated the Pakistan Navy, defence experts and all stakeholders on the successful commissioning of the vessel.
Highlighting Pakistan–Türkiye defence ties, the President described bilateral cooperation as a reflection of mutual trust and long-standing brotherly relations. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further expanding collaboration in the defence industry.
President Zardari stressed that strengthening naval power is vital for safeguarding Pakistan’s economy, trade and sea lanes. He noted that the MILGEM-class project stands as a successful example of shared vision and technical expertise between the two countries.
