Lahore, March 9: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that large-scale development projects across the province are transforming Punjab into a major hub of infrastructure development and construction.
She said modern development initiatives are being launched across cities and rural areas, while neglected regions are now witnessing new progress under the Punjab Development Programme.
According to the chief minister, the programme includes development projects worth Rs517 billion aimed at improving infrastructure, drainage and municipal services throughout the province.
She announced that 380 water storage tanks will be constructed across Punjab to address urban flooding and improve rainwater management. The government is also upgrading the sewerage system with modern HDP pipelines designed to last up to 100 years.
Under the development plan, more than 6,000 kilometres of sewerage lines and 189 kilometres of major drainage channels will be built across various districts.
Officials said the programme also includes the construction of 83 disposal stations and nine underground water storage tanks to strengthen water management systems and prevent urban flooding during heavy rains.
The chief minister said the projects aim to ensure balanced development and improve living standards in both urban and rural areas.
