Governor Praises Lasbela University’s Rapid Expansion and Modernization in Higher Education

QUETTA, March 16, 2026: Governor Jaffar Khan Mandokhail has lauded Lasbela University for its recent advancements, including the introduction of modern academic programs, international collaborations, and enhanced Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) rankings, calling these developments a significant step toward elevating Balochistan’s higher education standards. He urged university officials to increase student enrollment so that the benefits of these improvements reach a wider student population.
The governor highlighted outcomes from his recent visit to Russia, where Saint Petersburg State University of Telecommunications (SPBSUT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Lasbela University to strengthen academic cooperation. The university has also secured a PKR 213 million GIZ-funded project under the European Union to upgrade faculty equipment and facilities.
Governor Mandokhail praised the Pakistan Engineering Council for recognizing the university’s Department of Civil Engineering as a milestone achievement. He acknowledged the support of federal and provincial partners, including Federal Minister Jam Kamal Khan, DG Pakistan Coast Guard Major General Jawad Riaz, and Parliamentary Secretary Zareen Magsi, for contributing to the university’s progress.
During a meeting at Governor House with Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Abdul Malik Tareen, the governor noted that the university’s QEC ranking had risen sharply from 45% to 85.3%, attributing this improvement to effective governance, timely senate and syndicate meetings, and rigorous oversight.
Governor Mandokhail stressed the need to introduce diploma courses in Marine Sciences, Agriculture, and Livestock to broaden academic opportunities, noting that the university is now well-prepared to offer programs aligned with contemporary educational needs.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Tareen briefed the governor on financial transparency initiatives and enhanced hostel management, earning praise for the institution’s administrative improvements. The governor also encouraged Lasbela University to take a leading role in the upcoming All Public Sector Universities seminar after Eid.
