Karachi, March 19 — Pak Telecom Mobile Limited (PTML), operating as Ufone, has formally stepped into Pakistan’s 5G landscape, securing the largest share of the globally standardized 3.5 GHz spectrum. Subject to regulatory approvals, the planned merger of Telenor Pakistan into Ufone is expected to create the country’s largest spectrum-holding telecom entity.
The combined entity, referred to as MergeCo, will possess a diversified spectrum portfolio of 292.4 MHz—surpassing its closest competitor by 8 MHz—across low, mid, and high frequency bands. This is expected to enable faster speeds, improved reliability, and enhanced digital services for both individual and enterprise users.
PTML has also secured an additional 60 MHz in the 2600 MHz band, alongside 120 MHz of contiguous spectrum, allowing wider 5G channels for higher peak speeds, stable data throughput, and improved user capacity, particularly in urban centers.
Post-merger, the expanded network capacity is set to support advanced digital experiences including ultra-HD streaming, cloud gaming, and augmented and virtual reality applications. The company also aims to lead in nationwide coverage, leveraging 44.8 MHz in low-frequency bands such as 850 MHz and 900 MHz to extend connectivity to rural and semi-urban areas.
PTCL & Ufone President and CEO Hatem Bamatraf said the company’s spectrum advantage positions it to set new benchmarks in speed, coverage, and performance, while advancing digital connectivity across Pakistan.
The integration is also expected to enhance the overall 4G experience nationwide, alongside future 5G deployment.
