GWADAR, July 19: A Chinese-supported school in Gwadar is transforming access to education for hundreds of children, particularly girls from low-income families, while strengthening Pakistan-China educational cooperation through quality learning and community development.

The China-Pakistan Government Girls High School, Faqeer Colony Gwadar, commonly known as the China-Pak Friendship School, currently educates around 550 students from Kindergarten to Class 10 with the support of 22 teaching and non-teaching staff. Built on land donated by the family of educator Naseem Baloch and funded by the China Foundation for Peace and Development, the school has become a symbol of educational progress in the region.

Naseem Baloch, who earned a Master’s degree in Higher Education from Central China Normal University in Wuhan between 2019 and 2021, now serves as a teacher and coordinator at the school. He applies the knowledge gained in China to promote quality education, improve school management and encourage students to think beyond geographical boundaries while fostering values of responsibility, cooperation and service to society.

Established as a primary school in 2016, upgraded to a middle school in 2017, and elevated to a high school in 2024, the institution has expanded educational opportunities in an area that previously had no formal school. Supported by the Chinese Embassy and China Overseas Ports Holding Company, it now provides free education, enabling many students to become the first in their families to pursue higher education.

Naseem said the school has transformed the local community by making quality education accessible to every child, regardless of economic background. Graduates have gone on to colleges and universities, including the University of Balochistan, while regular exchanges with Chinese delegations continue to promote friendship and cultural understanding. Looking ahead, he called for greater Pakistan-China cooperation in digital education, smart classrooms, artificial intelligence, teacher training and virtual learning to further improve educational opportunities in remote areas under the framework of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
