In a tragic incident in Nasirabad, Balochistan, a father allegedly shot and killed his daughter over a purported “honor” dispute. The incident occurred in the Shahwani area under the jurisdiction of Tambo Babakot Police Station, where Basham Khan reportedly opened fire on his daughter, identified as Ms. (J).

The suspect fled the scene immediately after the attack. Police recovered the victim’s body and transferred it to a local hospital for necessary procedures before handing it over to her family. A case has been registered, and authorities have launched a manhunt for the accused.

Balochistan has witnessed a concerning rise in honor killings in recent years, with multiple districts reporting frequent cases. According to a recent report by Women Foundation, between 2019 and 2024, 212 honor killings were recorded across the province. The annual breakdown includes 52 in 2019, 51 in 2020, 24 in 2021, 28 in 2022, 24 in 2023, and 33 in 2024. Nasirabad accounted for the highest number of cases, followed by Jaffarabad, Jhal Magsi, Mastung, Kachhi, Quetta, Kalat, Sibi, Loralai, and Khuzdar.

The report highlights systemic challenges in addressing such crimes, noting that most perpetrators remain unpunished due to delayed legal proceedings, inadequate police cooperation, and political or tribal pressures, which continue to obstruct justice for victims.
