WHO team reviews Nutrition Stabilization Centre renovation at Mastung hospital

MASTUNG, Nov 30 — A World Health Organization (WHO) mission team on Saturday inspected the ongoing renovation work of the new Nutrition Stabilization Centre (NSC) at Shaheed Nawab Ghaus Bakhsh Raisani Memorial Hospital Mastung. The centre will treat severely malnourished children under the Benazir Nashonuma Programme.

The WHO delegation was led by the organization’s head for Balochistan, Dr. Asfandyar Sherani, accompanied by Nutrition Officer Dr. Imaduddin Sher Magsi and Engineer Zain-ul-Abideen. Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, Dr. Amir Iqbal Raisani, briefed the team and conducted visits to several key departments including Paediatrics, Gynecology, Neonatology, Cardiac Ward, Pharmacy, the newly built Emergency Response Centre, EPI Centre, Leishmania Clinic, and the Nutrition OTP Centre.

The delegation also reviewed monitoring reports from the ongoing MR vaccination campaign.

The WHO team expressed satisfaction over the NSC’s progress and reaffirmed continued support in the form of staff training, equipment, and essential medical supplies, noting that the improvements would significantly enhance treatment quality. The team discussed breastfeeding guidelines and maternal-child nutrition standards during the visit.

The NSC is expected to become fully operational by December 2025. The hospital’s CEO thanked WHO and partner organizations, urging further technical assistance to strengthen maternal and newborn healthcare services across the district.
