President Asif Ali Zardari has reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to safeguarding the dignity, rights, and full inclusion of persons with visual impairment, marking World Braille Day observed on January 4.
In his message, the President said World Braille Day commemorates the birth anniversary of Louis Braille, whose tactile system revolutionized access to education and information for millions globally. He described Braille as not merely a literacy tool but a powerful symbol of independence, confidence, and equal opportunity.
Emphasizing Pakistan’s constitutional and moral obligations, President Zardari stated that accessible education, inclusive public services, and equal opportunities for visually impaired citizens are essential for national progress. He reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to promote Braille literacy, inclusive curricula, and assistive and digital technologies to expand access to learning.
The President also stressed the importance of enforcing accessibility standards across public buildings, government services, and digital platforms. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to international frameworks, including the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Sustainable Development Goals, calling for collective efforts to build an inclusive and compassionate society.
