KARACHI, Jan 7: Chinese-made solar power systems are rapidly becoming a must-have for newlywed couples in Pakistan, driven by rising electricity costs and persistent power shortages.
In Karachi, 27-year-old Raza and his wife Mairam received a 15-panel solar system as a wedding gift from their parents. Installed within three days at a cost of about Rs800,000, the system now supplies daytime electricity, reducing their monthly power bill from nearly Rs60,000 to Rs24,000.
Experts say affordable Chinese photovoltaic solutions have made clean energy accessible for middle-class families. Jibran Hussain, a Pakistani professional with experience in the solar sector, noted that young couples increasingly prioritize solar installations while planning new homes.
With panels symbolizing financial security and sustainability, many Pakistanis now view rooftop solar as a “sunshine bank” and a foundation for a stable future.
