CM Punjab Warns Against Turning Basant Festival into Bloodshed

Lahore, Feb 5, 2026: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif took notice of an incident in Rawalpindi where a young girl was injured due to a kite string. She directed the Commissioner Rawalpindi to submit a detailed report.
The chief minister reiterated that Basant celebrations are permitted only in Lahore, while kite flying remains strictly banned elsewhere in Punjab. She emphasized that the use of prohibited and dangerous kite strings must not turn a festival of joy into tragedy. Authorities have been instructed to enforce the law strictly and take action against anyone involved in the use or sale of banned kite strings to ensure public safety.
