Blistering Crackdown on Security Lapses: CM Sarfraz Bugti Orders Sweeping Police Reforms Across Balochistan

Quetta, February 18, 2026 – Chief Minister of Balochistan, Sarfraz Bugti, emphasized that maintaining law and order remains the government’s top priority, asserting that there will be no compromise on the protection of citizens’ lives and property. He warned in strong terms that any negligence or lapse in safeguarding public safety is unacceptable, and directed that all responsible parties be held accountable without exception. Relevant authorities have been instructed to bolster security arrangements and ensure citizens’ protection under all circumstances.
Under CM Sarfraz Bugti’s chairmanship, a critical review meeting was held at the Chief Minister Secretariat on Wednesday to evaluate the capacity and performance of the Levies Force following its integration into the Balochistan Police. Officials from the Home Department presented a detailed briefing on progress made since the merger, challenges encountered, and future strategic plans.
During the session, immediate and long-term measures were approved to modernize the police force in line with contemporary security demands. A key decision was made to appoint 46 new Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) across the province, aiming to strengthen supervision and administrative efficiency at district and sub-divisional levels.
The Chief Minister directed the swift establishment of a revamped police administrative structure and assured the provision of all necessary resources to enhance operational capacity. He stressed that the government will allocate every possible resource to reinforce the police’s effectiveness.
Highlighting the dual challenges of routine crimes and serious threats such as terrorism, CM Sarfraz Bugti underscored the necessity of equipping the force with professional skills, modern training, and advanced technology. He further instructed that reforms in administrative boundaries and powers, crucial for public service delivery and improved law and order after the Levies integration, be implemented promptly and effectively.
To ensure accountability, the Chief Minister ordered a robust monitoring system for police performance across all districts, emphasizing that upholding the rule of law and merit-based governance will strengthen public confidence and promote stability.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Balochistan Shakil Qadir Khan, Additional Chief Secretary Home Hamza Shafqat, Additional Chief Secretary Development Zahid Saleem, IG Police Balochistan Muhammad Tahir Khan, Secretary Finance Lal Jan Jaffar, and other senior officials. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to completing the Levies merger efficiently and enhancing overall security across the province.
