Lahore, March 9: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has constituted the Punjab Economic Transformation Committee to accelerate industrial growth and promote small industries across the province.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by the chief minister to review strategies for strengthening industrial development. The meeting agreed to develop various districts as industrial hubs according to their local production capacity, skills and economic potential.
The 11-member committee will be headed by Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, while the provincial finance secretary will serve as its secretary. The committee will conduct district-level economic mapping to identify sectoral opportunities and determine priorities for establishing industrial clusters.
Officials said the body will set measurable performance indicators and implementation timelines for both short-term and long-term industrial initiatives. It will also consult private-sector stakeholders to prepare sector-wise development plans and promote sustainable economic growth.
The chief minister directed authorities to connect locally produced value-added products with global value chains to enhance exports and competitiveness.
During the meeting, proposals were reviewed to develop Lahore as a hub for IT software, garments, meat processing and leather industries, while Gujrat may focus on fan manufacturing, rice exports and home appliances.
