Sweden Explores Multi-Country Climate Fund in Pakistan

Islamabad: Sweden’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Alexandra Berg von Linde, met with Federal Minister for Climate Change Dr. Musadik Malik to discuss global climate challenges and potential bilateral cooperation.
The ambassador congratulated Dr. Malik on his invitation to the Arctic Circle Assembly, highlighting the need for collective international action on climate issues that transcend borders. Dr. Malik emphasized the importance of collaboration between Arctic nations and Himalayan countries, including Pakistan, to strengthen research and joint policies addressing glacier melt and climate change.
Sweden highlighted private sector engagement in climate action. Its financial institution, Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken (SEB), is exploring a multi-country fund in Pakistan focusing on water, infrastructure, and energy projects. The fund aims to help local companies reduce investment risks and promote sustainable development, in coordination with the Green Climate Fund (GCF).
Dr. Malik welcomed the initiative and proposed a detailed meeting with SEB representatives to discuss potential collaboration. He stressed that Pakistan offers significant opportunities for climate-focused investments, particularly in water, energy, and infrastructure sectors.
