Pakistan, China Sign $440 Million Pharma Deals as PM Shehbaz Calls It a Major CPEC 2.0 Milestone

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday welcomed the signing of nine Pakistan-China pharmaceutical agreements worth approximately US$440 million, describing the investment as a major breakthrough that would accelerate CPEC 2.0, strengthen bilateral economic ties, and transform Pakistan into a regional hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing and exports.
Addressing the Pakistan-China Pharmaceutical Business-to-Business Conference, the prime minister said the agreements would promote local production of life-saving medicines, vaccines, biotechnology, and research and development while creating new investment and export opportunities. He noted that China had already invested over US$30 billion in Pakistan under the first phase of CPEC and said the latest partnerships marked another milestone in economic cooperation.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif witnessed the signing of the agreements between Pakistani and Chinese companies. Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal said the conference reflected the government’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare sector through foreign investment and technology transfer. Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong reaffirmed Beijing’s support for Pakistan’s pharmaceutical industry and expressed confidence in future cooperation under CPEC Phase-II.
