MASTUNG, July 18: Traffic on the Quetta-Karachi National Highway was temporarily suspended on Saturday after a Mazda vehicle caught fire inside the Lakpass Tunnel in Mastung, causing long queues of vehicles on both sides of the route.
According to initial reports, the fire erupted while the vehicle was passing through the tunnel, prompting authorities to immediately close the tunnel as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety and facilitate emergency response operations.
Rescue teams and relevant authorities rushed to the scene and launched efforts to extinguish the blaze and clear the affected area. No casualties or injuries were immediately reported.
Officials are assessing the cause of the fire, while efforts are underway to restore normal traffic flow at the earliest. Motorists have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel through the area and follow official traffic advisories until the highway is fully reopened.
