ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has criticised the recent increase in petroleum prices, describing it as an additional economic burden on the public at a time of rising inflation and increasing living costs.

In a party statement, PTI said the fuel price increase had been introduced while citizens were already facing financial pressure due to inflation, unemployment, and higher electricity and gas bills. The statement also noted the introduction of a daily fuel price adjustment mechanism.

According to PTI, higher petroleum prices have a wider impact beyond transportation, affecting the cost of essential commodities, agriculture, industry, trade and household budgets, with the potential to further increase inflation.

The party urged the government to reduce the petroleum levy and other taxes, align fuel and electricity prices with consumers’ purchasing power, and adopt economic policies aimed at supporting industry, trade and exports. PTI also maintained that addressing corruption, unnecessary public expenditure and economic mismanagement was essential for tackling the country’s economic challenges.
