Drought-Hit Areas in Gwadar Receive Emergency Water Supply.
Gwadar, December 27, 2024: Mumtaz Baloch, Public Health Engineering official, conducted an extensive tour of drought-affected areas in Gwadar, where water scarcity has severely impacted the local population.
The district’s key water reservoirs, Rambdo Dam and Kuniro Dam, have completely dried up due to the recent drought, disrupting water supply to various union councils.¹ The dams’ dryness has halted water transmission, affecting residents of Kalanch, Kalg, Sardasht, Haduki, Kalmat, Kochu, Zehro, Jandri, Kashii, and other areas.
In response to the crisis, Public Health Engineering initiated emergency water supply to the affected areas through tankers. During the visit, Baloch assessed the current situation of the dams and met with local representatives and elders to discuss a comprehensive plan for effective and sustainable water supply.
The drought has exacerbated water scarcity in the region, with some areas experiencing up to 140 days without rainfall.² The situation highlights the need for sustainable water management solutions to mitigate the impact of droughts on local communities.
