South Waziristan: Feb 25. Organized smuggling of chalgoze on Pak-Afghan border, district administration and security personnel posted on border areas are allegedly involved.
Large-scale inland smuggling of Chalgoza from Afghanistan has been revealed through the border areas of Pak-Afghan border, especially Angoor Ada, Warsak, Khand and other secret routes. According to the sources, the district administration, agriculture department and security forces personnel posted on Pak-Afghan border are also allegedly involved in this illegal business, who are causing a loss of crores of rupees to the national exchequer by facilitating the smugglers.

According to sources, the smugglers are issued permits by the district administration and the agriculture department to show that the chalgoza illegally brought from Afghanistan is the produce of the forests of South Waziristan. A certain group of international smugglers use the smuggling method by looking at the permits issued by the Department of Agriculture at various check posts in the interior of the country. These permits facilitate the movement of chalgoza into the country without any legal hurdles by showing it at various check posts, causing huge loss to the national exchequer in terms of tax evasion.
According to economists, as a result of this smuggling, tax evasion of crores of rupees is taking place on a daily basis, which is seriously affecting the country’s economy. If this smuggling is not controlled, then Pakistan’s economy may face further difficulties. It should be noted that some time ago, the Lahore customs authorities had accused South Waziristan traders of evasion of national tax by proving Chalghoza of Afghanistan as Pakistani by sealing the warehouses of the South Waziristan business community.
According to the sources, Customs Superintendent Nisar Abbasi and Inspector Khushal Khan, who were abducted from Angwar Adda a few days ago, were also abducted as victims of the same conspiracy. According to reports, these two officers were possibly obstructing the smuggling route, due to which they were abducted by unknown persons. So far, their recovery has not been possible and they are trapped in the clutches of the kidnappers.
Local traders say that this year the production of Chalghoze in South Waziristan is very low and non-existent. The business circles have demanded the government to take strict action against the elements involved in this illegal business, converting Anguar Adda into a customs free zone. In addition, there is a need to further tighten border security and improve surveillance at all check posts to prevent further damage to the country’s economy. Chalghuze on the smuggling business
So far, there has been no clear response from the government agencies on this issue. However, experts say that if the government does not take timely measures against this illegal activity, it may have dire consequences in the future.
This situation is a big question mark on government policies and performance of law enforcement agencies. The public and the business community are demanding an immediate stop to this illegal trade to avoid further loss to the national exchequer.
