Okara, Nov 11, 2025: The alleged ringleader of an inter-district dacoit gang was arrested on Tuesday following a brief exchange of fire with Basirpur police near Head Glacier in the Basirpur area. Authorities confirmed that the suspect sustained injuries from gunfire, reportedly caused by his fleeing accomplices.
The incident unfolded after law enforcement agencies responded to a report that three armed men had forcibly snatched a motorcycle and cash from a local citizen, Muhammad Yousuf.
A police team from Basirpur, led by SHO Adnan Rafiq, arrived promptly at the scene. Upon noticing the police, the suspects opened fire, prompting officers to retaliate in self-defense. During the exchange, one suspect was shot and subsequently taken into custody.
The arrested individual has been identified as Zafar Iqbal, allegedly involved in 24 cases of serious crimes, including dacoity and highway robbery, with records in multiple police stations across Lahore and Okara.
Authorities recovered the stolen motorcycle and a firearm from Iqbal. His two accomplices managed to escape amid the gunfire, and a comprehensive search operation is ongoing to apprehend them.
Police have assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the fleeing suspects are brought to justice.
