Quetta: Former Balochistan chief minister Nawab Sanaullah Khan Zehri has strongly reacted to the court martial verdict against former Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed, alleging that the removal of his elected government in Balochistan was the result of systematic political engineering.

Speaking in Quetta, Zehri said his government was dismissed because he stood by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. He claimed that the no-confidence move against his government was not political in nature but a “Faizi-engineered” action. According to him, the downfall of the Balochistan government was orchestrated not only by Faiz Hameed and his subordinates but also with the direct involvement of former army chief General (R) Qamar Javed Bajwa.

Zehri demanded that action under Article 6 of the Constitution should be initiated against all those involved in toppling an elected democratic government. He said he was ready to present complete evidence of political interference before a military court.

Questioning the disparity in accountability, Zehri said politicians were awarded death sentences while a senior general received 14 years of rigorous imprisonment, calling it a clear double standard. He also referred to the execution of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, which was later termed a “judicial murder” by a full bench of the Supreme Court.

The former chief minister revealed that General Bajwa had contacted him twice and assured action, yet Faiz Hameed remained in Quetta for four days. He said interference by both generals destabilized governance and worsened law and order in Balochistan.

Zehri added that while the current accountability process is being viewed positively by the public, complete and transparent accountability of past political interference remains essential.
