Independent Report – Quetta, December 21, 2025
Heavy rain and snowfall continued across northern, highland, and coastal regions of Balochistan, creating severe disruptions in daily life. Areas including Chaman, Qila Abdullah, Ziarat, Toba Achakzai, Kan Mehtarzai, and Qila Saifullah recorded intense precipitation, pushing temperatures to freezing or below. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) is conducting rescue operations with snowplows, loaders, and heavy machinery to clear roads, ensuring continued traffic flow. Meanwhile, unannounced electricity outages and gas shortages have compounded hardships for residents, who are increasingly relying on coal and wood for heating, driving prices upward. Qalat recorded 29 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, while other districts reported temperatures ranging from minus 1°C in Ziarat to 13°C in Turbat. Farmers and livestock owners welcomed the precipitation, which replenished water reservoirs in upper valleys and ended a prolonged dry spell. Authorities remain on high alert, prioritizing emergency responses to any situation arising from harsh winter conditions.
