Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar chaired a high-level review meeting of the E-Challan/TRACE system at the Sindh Assembly, directing that recommendations on revising fines for motorcycles and cars be submitted within one week. The session assessed traffic management, enforcement of the new traffic law, and public facilitation measures.
DIG Traffic briefed participants on system performance, while members discussed concerns over challan amounts for small vehicles. Opposition Leader Ali Khurshidi supported the law but urged rationalisation of fines. Officials said the framework aligns with international standards and has reduced violations.
The Home Minister ordered immediate seizure of unregistered heavy vehicles, mandatory installation of trackers within two months, strict action against revolving lights and illegal window tinting, and zero tolerance for non-standard number plates. He also directed planning for 400 new traffic signals in Karachi, digitised payments and complaints, and formation of a Traffic Management Committee to ensure fair fines.
An “Ambassador Section” will be created to promote road safety with sports stars and celebrities joining awareness drives.
