Gilgit, January 16, 2026: Caretaker Government of Gilgit-Baltistan’s spokesman, Shabbir Ahmed Mir, made his first visit to the Gilgit Press Club since assuming office, where local journalists congratulated him on his appointment.

During an informal interaction, Mir emphasized that the caretaker government is committed to ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections in the region. “No political party will be able to challenge the credibility of the upcoming elections,” he said, adding that the government would fully support the Election Commission to maintain a peaceful voting process.

Addressing a question on election timing, he stated that Gilgit-Baltistan polls are expected in May or June, though the final schedule will be announced by the Election Commission. He also highlighted the government’s focus on addressing public issues and informing citizens about administrative priorities.

Mir acknowledged the difficulties faced by travelers on the Karakoram Highway and said the caretaker government is in continuous coordination with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa authorities to implement effective solutions soon.

He further stated that practical measures are underway to reduce electricity load-shedding during Ramadan, ensuring uninterrupted power supply during sehri and iftar hours. Regarding sewerage projects, he confirmed that road metal-laying will begin shortly where pipelines have been installed, minimizing public inconvenience.

Concluding the visit, Mir assured journalists that the caretaker government will take effective steps to address issues faced by the media community promptly.
