Quetta, 21 January 2026: The Government of Balochistan has approved the Balochistan Reproductive Health Protection and Promotion Bill, 2026, marking a significant step towards improving access to reproductive health services in the province.
The legislation aims to enhance maternal and child health, provide family planning services, and safeguard fundamental reproductive health rights. According to available data, maternal mortality rates in Balochistan remain the highest in the country, highlighting the urgent need for such a law.
Under the bill, all public and private healthcare facilities will be required to offer reproductive health services and contraceptive facilities. The law also emphasizes public awareness, quality services, monitoring, staff training, and the protection of women’s and families’ dignity, privacy, and autonomy.
Officials say the law will help the province manage rapid population growth, limited resources, and existing health challenges, contributing to sustainable social and economic development in Balochistan
