Quetta: National Party Central Secretary General Mir Kabir Ahmed Muhammad Shahi has denounced the provincial government’s forceful crackdown on the peaceful demonstration staged by government employees under the Grand Alliance, criticizing the arrests, violence, and heavy-handed police measures.
In a statement, Shahi emphasized that freedom of expression and the right to peaceful protest are guaranteed constitutional rights. He noted that escalating inflation, economic challenges, and inadequate salaries have made life extremely difficult for government employees, yet the authorities have responded with intimidation rather than addressing their legitimate concerns.
Shahi asserted that the deployment of police force exposes the administration’s apprehension toward lawful dissent. He added that even the prospect of a protest prompts the government to block the Red Zone with containers and suspend mobile internet services, disrupting normal life for the general public.
Highlighting the broader impact, he warned that if government employees are subjected to such treatment, ordinary workers, farmers, traders, transporters, students, political activists, and citizens are likely facing even greater hardships under the current authoritarian measures.
The National Party voiced full support for the legitimate demands of government employees and pledged solidarity with the protesters. Shahi called for the immediate release of those detained, implementation of prior commitments, an end to retaliatory actions against employee leaders, and respect for the democratic right to protest peacefully.
