QUETTA, Feb 12: Provincial Minister for Communications and Works Mir Saleem Ahmed Khosa has ordered immediate action after a video circulating on social media allegedly showed unidentified individuals damaging the Koila Phatak Flyover and removing steel from its structure.
Terming the episode “deeply alarming,” the minister directed Secretary Communications and Works Babar Khan to ensure prompt and decisive measures against those responsible. He made it clear that vandalism of public infrastructure and theft of state assets would not be tolerated.
The viral footage purportedly captures individuals attempting to detach steel components from sections of the flyover, triggering serious concerns regarding the structure’s safety and durability.
In response to the minister’s instructions, the Executive Engineer Roads (Sadar) conducted an on-site inspection of the Koila Phatak Flyover. Preliminary findings indicated that efforts had been made to extract steel from certain portions of the structure, potentially affecting its strength and stability.
An engineering team has initiated preparation of a detailed report to assess the magnitude of the damage and determine the extent of repair work required.
Meanwhile, the Executive Engineer has registered an FIR against unidentified persons at the relevant police station and formally requested law enforcement agencies to trace and arrest those involved without delay. Authorities have also sought the deployment of dedicated police personnel at the flyover to prevent any further incidents of theft or vandalism.
The incident has drawn concern from various public circles, with citizens calling for strengthened protection of development projects across the city. They pointed out that damage to vital infrastructure such as flyovers not only causes financial losses but also endangers public safety.
Officials from the Communications and Works Department stated that necessary steps are underway to secure and restore the flyover, affirming that strict legal action will be pursued against anyone found responsible.
