Governer KP Hosts US Consul General, Discusses Bilateral Ties

ISLAMABAD, March 30: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi hosted a special luncheon in honour of US Consul General Thomas Eckert and diplomatic staff at his residence in Islamabad, where matters of mutual interest and bilateral relations were discussed.
During the meeting, both sides held detailed discussions on Pakistan–US relations, regional developments, and the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Issues related to promoting peace, improving law and order, and expanding sports infrastructure in the province were also reviewed.
The governor highlighted ongoing efforts to revive sports activities and emphasized the importance of developing playgrounds for youth engagement and social stability. The proposal to declare New York and Peshawar as sister cities was also discussed, with both sides acknowledging its potential to strengthen people-to-people contacts.
Governor Kundi expressed concern over reports regarding the proposed closure of the US Consulate General office in Peshawar, stating that it serves as an important facilitation and diplomatic centre for the people of the province. He urged that the matter be taken up with the US Embassy and Congress for reconsideration.
The US Consul General appreciated the governor’s vision for the sister cities initiative, noting that work is ongoing from both sides. He reaffirmed the US government’s commitment to supporting development and prosperity initiatives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa through continued partnership and cooperation.
