QUETTA: The Gwadar Port Authority (GPA), Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department, and Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) have agreed to adopt a joint strategy to resolve the water crisis in Gwadar.
A joint meeting of the concerned departments was held to address the ongoing water crisis in Gwadar, attended by Chairman of GPA, Noor-ul-Haq Baloch, Secretary of PHE Department Imran Gichki, Director General of GDA, Saifullah Khetran, and Executive Engineer of the PHE Momin Baloch.
During the course of meeting, an in-depth discussion was held regarding the water shortage in Gwadar. Following deliberations, all three institutions agreed to adopt a joint strategy.
According to the plan, the Government of Balochistan will purchase water from the 1.2 MGD Chinese desalination plant located at Gwadar Port and supply 700,000 to 800,000 gallons of water daily to Gwadar’s Old City.
The Gwadar Port Authority and the Public Health Engineering Department will oversee the operation.
Furthermore, the Public Health Department has prepared and submitted a summary to the Chief Minister of Balochistan for the extension of the pipeline from Santsar Boring to Pishkan. Once completed, this project will enable water supply to Pishkan, Paleri, and surrounding areas.
The GDA has also taken steps by deciding to connect the Shadi Kor supply pipeline with the Sowad Dam’s Chor pumping station to ensure uninterrupted water supply to the remaining areas of Gwadar.
The high ups stated that the implementation of these decisions would be carried out on an urgent basis to ensure that residents of Gwadar have prompt access to this basic necessity.
