Independent Report
Peshawar, Nov 5: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi held a meeting with a delegation of the Senate Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination, which called on him at the CM Secretariat on Tuesday. The delegation congratulated CM Sohail Afridi on assuming office and discussed key issues related to inter-provincial trade and coordination.
The meeting primarily focused on Punjab’s restrictions on the free movement of wheat, a matter that has raised serious concerns regarding the constitutional right to inter-provincial trade under Article 151 of the Constitution of Pakistan.
Chief Minister Sohail Afridi reaffirmed that every province has the constitutional right to freely trade food commodities across Pakistan, emphasizing that no province can unilaterally restrict the transportation of essential goods such as wheat and flour.
“Political differences are understandable, but there should be no politics over the livelihood and food supply of the people,” stated CM Afridi, calling for enhanced inter-provincial harmony to resolve the wheat supply issue.
He lauded the Senate Committee members as ambassadors of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, appreciating their efforts to promote cooperation and strengthen the federation.
The delegation included Senators Dilawar Khan, Mohsin Aziz, Naseema Ehsan, Nasir Mahmood, Hidayat Ullah Khan, Niaz Ahmed, and Musaddiq Masood, among others. From the provincial side, Advisor on Finance Muzzammil Aslam, Secretary Food Shah Mahmood, and other senior officials attended the meeting.
