Karachi, Dec 23: The 23rd Senate meeting of the University of Karachi (KU) approved the Annual Statement for 2023–24, the Revised Budget for 2024–25, and the Proposed Budget for 2025–26 during a session held at the Chinese Teachers Memorial Auditorium. The meeting was chaired by Sindh Minister for Universities and Boards Muhammad Ismail Rahoo.
The Senate also endorsed statutes for the Karachi University Endowment Fund and the Karachi University Pension Endowment Fund, aimed at strengthening transparent and sustainable financial management, Finance Director Syed Jahanzeb told the house.
Addressing members, Rahoo said KU, the province’s largest university, faces acute administrative and fiscal pressures amid inflation and rising salary and pension costs. He assured phased resolution of issues and said the government would consider a bailout package to stabilize finances, stressing a policy focus on quality education.
Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi reported improvements in rankings, research output, online services, infrastructure, transport, sports, healthcare, and examination timelines, despite funding constraints. He also cited expanded scholarship access and merit-based appointments to bolster academic standards.
