Pakistan Celebrates International Day of Education with Focus on Youth Leadership

Islamabad, January 23, 2026:
The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), in collaboration with UNESCO, marked the International Day of Education with a youth-focused event at Islamabad Model College for Girls (IMCG) F-7/4. The event, held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, highlighted the role of young leaders in shaping inclusive and quality education.
Organized alongside partners including BECS, the National Commission for Human Development’s Pehla Qadam Movement, Special Education institutions, and the ASPIRE Programme, the event emphasized reducing out-of-school children, strengthening teacher development, and expanding access to education for all.
Aligned with the global theme, “The Power of Youth in Co-Creating Education”, students led performances and presentations, while participants discussed solutions to 21st-century challenges, including rapid technological change.
Chief Guest Madam Wajiha Qamar, Minister of State for Education, along with Federal Secretary Nadeem Mahbub and FDE Director General Syed Junaid Ikhlaq, praised UNESCO’s continued partnership and commended IMCG F-7/4 for hosting the event.
The observance reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 4 and Article 25-A of the Constitution, highlighting initiatives like curriculum modernization, teacher training, digital learning, and community-supported enrollment drives.
