Sibi — Leaders of major political parties in Sibi, including Mir Aslam Gashkori of National Party, Ahmed Khan Luni of Pashtunkhwa National Awami Party, Malik Sultan Dehpal of BNP Mengal, Mir Saleem Marghzani of MQM Pakistan, and Maulana Musa Khan Rand of JUI, have demanded the immediate cancellation of the annual Sibi Mela due to the current law and order situation.
Speaking at a joint press conference at the National Party Sibi office, the leaders, joined by senior party officials including Ali Khan Khajak, Hamidullah Gashkori, Mohammad Khan Silachi, Nasir Khan Musa Khel, Mohammad Asif Luni, Siraj Bangalzai, Behroz Gashkori, Hidayatullah Silachi, and Mujtaba Teniw, said that public safety should be the government’s top priority. They warned that holding the fair under the present circumstances could lead to unfortunate incidents.
The leaders criticized the Sibi Mela for losing its original purpose, calling it a hub of corruption, mismanagement, and nepotism, where millions of rupees are spent without transparency. They highlighted widespread misuse of public resources and financial irregularities in the fair’s organization.
Citing local traditions, the leaders said it is inappropriate to celebrate while people are facing security threats and loss of life, noting that law and order in Sibi and wider Balochistan is already fragile. They urged the provincial government and district administration to redirect public funds towards education, health, and basic services instead of spending on the fair.
They also demanded fair treatment and additional support for local affluent citizens, warning that if their demands are ignored, the all-parties group will announce a future course of action, including protests and other democratic measures.
