PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi clarified the provincial government’s stance on the fuel supply situation, stating that concerns over possible disruption of supply lines due to the ongoing conflict involving Iran were discussed in a meeting with the federal minister for finance and petroleum.
He said the federal government briefed the KP government on potential supply shortages and possible impacts on petroleum prices.
The chief minister said the provincial government would not support any measures that directly burden the public. “Governments cannot continue unnecessary expenditures and then shift the burden of crises onto the people,” he said.
Afridi added that increasing petroleum prices to offset the impact of tensions involving Iran, the United States and Israel would not be a viable solution. He stressed that during crises, governments should reduce luxury expenditures and utilize resources to provide relief and subsidies to the public.
