Independent Report
DERA MURAD JAMALI: Farmers, political workers and local residents staged a protest rally in Dera Murad Jamali against the continued shortage of irrigation water in the Pat Feeder Canal, calling on the authorities to ensure an uninterrupted supply for agricultural lands.
The rally, led by National Party Naseerabad President Jagan Khan Magheri, drew participation from representatives of various political, social and religious organizations, as well as growers and members of the farming community. The protesters later held a sit-in outside the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Press Club.
Addressing the gathering, speakers said the persistent shortage of irrigation water was affecting standing crops spread over thousands of acres across Naseerabad, resulting in significant financial losses for farmers. They noted that agriculture is the backbone of the district’s economy and warned that the ongoing water crisis was creating serious challenges for growers.
The participants also alleged shortcomings in irrigation management, claiming that water was not reaching the tail-end areas of the canal. They urged the Government of Balochistan and the Irrigation Department to ensure a fair and uninterrupted distribution of irrigation water, improve transparency in water allocation and take action against those found responsible for any negligence.
