CM opposes “restructuring” of rehabilitation project: Ahsan assures to remove reservations of Balochistan Government on WB-assisted
rehabilitation projects in flood-hit areas

Mir Sarfraz Bugti emphasizes upon expediting pace of projects meant for rehabilitation in flood-affected areas of Balochistan; assures to ensure fast implementation on project if handed over to provincial Govt.

QUETTA: The Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti has underlined the need to ensure expeditious progress on implementation on the World Bank-assisted projects for rehabilitation of the flood-affected areas of the province.
He asked the federal government to hand over the rehabilitation project to the provincial government saying that we would ensure fast implementation on the projects if the same were handed over to the provincial government.
He pointed out that the people of flood-affected areas of Balochistan are facing hardships, as such there is a need to complete them at the earliest.
He mentioned that the Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is constantly reviewing the rehabilitation projects in the province in view of the hardships being faced by the affected people, and he is desirous of completing the projects as soon as possible.
The Chief Minister was speaking in the 8th meeting of steering committee of IFRAP held in Islamabad on Wednesday.
The Chief Minister participated in the meeting through video link, which was chaired by the Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Ahsan Iqbal.
The Provincial Minister Planning and Development, Mir Zahoor Buledi, Chief Secretary, Shakeel Qadir Khan, Additional Chief Secretary Development, Hafiz Abdul Basit, Principal Secretary, Babar Khan, Secretary Irrigation, Hafiz Abdul Majid and Additional Secretary CM secretariat, Muhammad Faridoon.
The Project Director Balochistan, Asfandyar Khan briefed the meeting about the existing situation of the rehabilitation project, hardships and hurdles being faced in it’s implementation.
The Chief Minister on the occasion directed to complete the initiatives for rehabilitation of the flood hit areas in the province.
The Chief Minister opposed the proposal of restructuring of the rehabilitation project and said that if all the resources were used on construction of the houses, then construction of the damaged educational institutions, health establishments and roads would not be made possible.
The general impression would not be on the people with this situation, adding he mentioned.
The Chief Minister proposed to link the internship of youth of Balochistan under the World Bank rehabilitation project with the CM’s Youth Skills Development Programme.
The Federal Minister Planning and Development was agreed with the proposal of Chief Minister saying that a separate meeting would be convened for making the proposal viable after reviewing it from all aspects.
The Federal Minister also assured that all the reservations of government of Balochistan would be removed on the World Bank’s assisted rehabilitation projects.
